Unpredicted and sudden releases by BTS have always surprised us, and "Film Out" is no exception. The teaser dropped a week before the release of the song and the music video, and ARMYs were already making theories about it, connecting it to the previous BTS universe storyline.

“Film Out” is from their upcoming Japanese-language compilation album, BTS, The Best, which is set to release on June 16, 2021. The song and album both are released under Universal Music Japan. The song will also be the ending theme for Signal the Movie: Cold Case Investigation Unit (2021). Jungkook has been credited as a songwriter in collaboration with the lead vocalist of Japanese rock power trio Back Number, Iyori Shimizu, and the track's producer UTA.

The lyrics focus on how the memory of a person whom you've lost can never fade away from your mind. The beginning of the song makes the theme crystal clear where we can clearly see the person in front of us, but when we try reaching out to them, they disappear because they were in our imagination. We can feel what the person has been through, we can feel the pain but we cannot do anything about it since the person is already gone. We can still feel the warmth, the smile and the presence of our beloved even though they left us.

ARMYs have linked the music video to previous MVs like “Fake Love” and “Black Swan.” Twitter swarmed with theories the moment everyone had the chance to watch the music video, and some of them are mind blowing and thought provoking. A theory goes like this: the scene where we can see multiple doors and the timeline Seokjin had been through, the memories and time he spent with the boys and the years he struggled to find the solution to end the time loop. Another one I would like to point out is a theory about the last scene of the music video where Taehyung and Seokjin face each other separated by only a fragile glass shield between them, where it is assumed that Seokjin is trying to reconcile with his dreams, the part of his soul where only Taehyung remains. Like in The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Taehyung is the one who pulled Seokjin off the time loop and reminded him of the memories he shared with the boys.

Film Out debuted #1 on Worldwide iTunes songs chart on the day of its release. “Film Out" by @BTS_twt has reached #1 in all of the Top 10 biggest music markets worldwide (USA, UK, Japan, Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Netherlands). As for the YouTube records, they broke their own record of "Stay Gold" and achieved the tag of most viewed Japanese song by a Korean act, receiving 29.3M+ views and 4.49M+ likes on  the platform in its first 24 hours of release.
